Overview of the Position

Our client based in Nyandarua County is looking for a school Cateress who will be stationed at the school’s Catering Department.  You will be responsible for food preparation; that will involve preparing ingredients for recipes, cooking on-site and service of food and beverage to learners, staff and guests at tableside or through a buffet or cafeteria system.

You will be required to follow the school code of conduct and ensure food is prepared in accordance with the school‘s standard and observe the safety and sanitation regulations as enshrined in the ministry of Public Health Act.


  • Develop Food and Beverage Budgets and engage in cost cutting measures.
  • Oversee food preparation ensuring good quality & tasty meals at all times.
  • Ensure sufficient stocks of food, beverages, consumables and student supplies, checking deliveries ensuring quality goods and taking appropriate action with delivery shortages
  • Maintain proper records for both Kitchen and student supplies and prepare relevant reports as may be required the management
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of school property held by the kitchen and students.
  • Plan and prepare the menu making certain that a balance diet is provided, in liaison with the Head of Kitchen and Head of School
  • Oversee general safety and cleanliness across the institution catering facility and its environs and prepare duty Rota for the catering / kitchen team.
  • In charge of catering service for school visitors and school events.
  • Keep constant communication with the Head of School about student’s affairs touching on diet and eating habits.
  • Report repairs required in the catering section
  • Work closely with Teacher on Duty and other relevant staff.
  • Ensure meals are served at the right temperature and within the right timing.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience of working in a school set up
  • Mature, empathetic and professional in dealing with pupils and students
  • Be a holder  of Diploma in F & B or Institutional management or Equivalent from a reputable institution
  • Have  a Health Certificate ,  Certificate of Good Conduct and First Aid certificate
  • Demonstrate competence in public relations and show high level of confidentiality, honesty and integrity and ready to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability in Food and Beverage Management and  Seasonal menu planning
  • Demonstrate Competence in Organization and Supervisory Skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in the interrelation and application of standard practices and procedures. Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability in problem solving and negotiating
  • Knowledge in Behavioral Change  and Mentorship
  • Confident, self-motivated and reliable; Patient and friendly approach.
  • Physical, mental, and emotional requirements will be developed through training and mentorship when needed for purposes of reasonable job performance and accommodation.
